Esteban tries to take over Giacomo's crew and steal his Starmobile, while Don Joey has to kick out some rabble rousers from his noble fellowship. Then, they both are forced to become influencers when confronted with Iono, the famous girlie streamer/Gym Leader.

There's one set of footprints leading into the dark star base. Ominous. Team star base. Yeah. And that is where I carried you because you refused to join me on our trip last week. But it sounds like you've gone back. Yeah, I cleaned up my act. I think we're finally synced up this episode.
[00:01:29] So here I am standing at the gate Esteban Umano. I am Steve Human's pal, day and cousin. I am hanging with my buds. We all go to this prestigious academy, Naranja. It's way better than whatever your academy was. What's yours? Banana?
[00:01:48] Uva. Uva. Egg? Her? Hey, I was rewatching Independence Day this last weekend. Yeah. Did you know that Egg is Bill Pullman and Mary McConnell's daughter? No, I didn't. Yeah, Bobby pointed that out. And I was like what? And then you're like, Bobby's just making shit up. No, but then you then you take it in and you're like, oh, it is plant. I couldn't believe it. Wow.
[00:02:16] I'm here with my buddies. And there's these ruffians who I think are actually pretty great. And I want to kind of get into business with and you know what? When you walk around Naranja Academy, a lot of the students are like, have you heard of these team star guys? They're pretty rad. Yeah, I feel like and it's like yeah, I agree.
[00:02:37] I feel that Esteban Umano probably backslid a little bit more this week is what I would expect down the dark path. Or maybe, I mean, I have some comments when we get to the fire team star base. He's like rolling up his like white shirts. He's like wearing like leather jackets now he's slicking back his hair. He's got a new team member.
[00:02:59] Putting on that dumb helmet in the star glasses. I'm good at it. Did you just see you looked away while I was doing it criminal? I was I just did it so well. Oh, you're better at it than me. I was going to say I didn't notice it at the dark team, dark team star base. At the fire base. The guard does the team star emblem. And I didn't know if that was only them. Yeah, they've got a sassy little gesture where they make a star with their hands. Triple H crotch chop.
[00:03:29] But it like has a star in it too. Yeah, it's cool. It was very good. And that definitely got some bonus points and Don Joey's. So there's a bell here I am. There's a guy called Jack. Jack O'Mill Bay. He's like I run this base. I'm like a delinquent student of Neuronja Academy. And I run this little outfit. And I was like, well, I would like to run the outfit actually, please. So I rang a little doorbell they had to be like, I'd like to submit my application as rule of thumb.
[00:03:59] I'm the ruler of this squad. They made me prove myself by doing this thing where you have to choose three Pokemon from your party and you have to run into the base and you have to throw. We did this twice this week, so we may as well just talk about both because they're the same experience. It's like a little it's like a little mission mini mini game. Yeah.
[00:04:21] So you run in the first base we did was a dark type Giacomo. The second base we did was a fire type base with Mila Mela Mela Mela Sorry, are you saying Melly? Did you have a different so one of the other team star leaders calls her Melly like as a colloquialism.
[00:04:45] You get at the end of we'll get into those. But at the end of the battles, when you take down their boss, you get a you get a flashback to like the origins of Team Star, I guess. Yeah, there's a lot of cutscenes in this game. When we were getting on to record today, I opened up my notes and I opened up my switch to put like my levels in and stuff and realized that I was locked into the beginning of the cutscene having just beaten Mella.
[00:05:14] Yeah, and it's a it's a long way out of that cutscene. They really like get you locked into a cutscene because it's like first you got to get through all the Mela stuff and then you get out of the base and then like there's this guy called Clive. Yeah, we should talk about Clive.
[00:05:30] Cassopia calls you like there's the the alt team who we save from the bowling in the beginning is now like here's a bunch of materials and it's like what am I doing with these materials? I have so many of these like stop giving me these. I don't know what to do.
[00:05:46] Well, it's to make TMS, although I would say I still have not been enticed enough to actually make a TM. And there's so many that you just find in the overworld that it's like, yeah, I've got a ton. I have so many. Anyway, here I am. Do we want to talk about Clive? Let's talk about Clive because he sort of gets you on your way in. The mechanic of this little mini sort of mission in the games is you go in, you have three Pokemon, you have to use the Pokemon to battle a bunch of like low level, high level Pokemon.
[00:06:16] So you have these little grunt Pokemon that are just sort of infesting the map and they're, you know, whatever. Like send them out and they just do like karate. Poochinas or you know, it's not like a normal Pokemon. Growliths depending on the base type. Yeah.
[00:06:31] But you got to be a little careful about it because if you like send out the guy who's hurt too much, you can kind of decide who goes out in what order. Yeah, they just auto attack.
[00:06:39] You have no control over what the Pokemon do. You can only control what order they come out in. And if they get KO'd, there's like soda machines around that you can resurrect them.
[00:06:51] So you do all that. That's how you get through the base and then you beat the boss. But before you can even get in, you're confronted by this like hip cat. Yeah.
[00:07:00] This like real cool like hipster dude. Smooth operator. Like an older student of the Academy called Clive with a cool like pompadour haircut, really cleaned up look. Yeah, kind of a thin Johnny Bravo. Is that a good reference? People get that one these days? Yeah, that's good. Yeah.
[00:07:21] It's Clavel, the director. Oh, so you think so? You think so? Well, he never comes out and says it. He has cool glasses. Similarly, but he's pretty invested in kind of like rooting out these Team Star bases. He wants to get these kids back on like the right track.
[00:07:39] And his first line that he says to you when he saunters up outside the Dark Team Star base is, I'm Clive, a normal Academy student just like you. Nothing more, nothing less, which is very Jackie Daytona normal human bartender if you watch What We Do in the Shadows. Yeah, of course.
[00:07:59] After all that nonsense on Staten Island, I cut loose to Pennsylvania because it sounded like Transylvania. We all know that sounds cool. I infiltrated the township posing as your average American Yankee doodle dandy and I took over Lucky Brew's Bar and Grill. The previous owner he mysteriously disappeared because I killed him. Drinks on the house.
[00:08:22] I think he I think he's probably Clavel. I won't look up on Bulbapedia Clive so I don't get spoiled, but I think as to, you know, adult men who have played all these other games, I think we have a pretty good handle on the kind of twists that might be going on here and I would say pretty confidently that Clive is Clavel. I think that's what's gonna happen. Yeah.
[00:08:45] So he sort of enlists us. He's like, actually just go in there and like don't try to be the boss of the place. I know you really want to and I know you want to have your own Team Star boss, but like trust me on this one. Just kind of like clean up in there and disband. Get in and get out. It'll be better in the long run if we just do that. So that's what I've done it twice now. And the first time against Giacomo was really easy. Yeah, that one was easy. But there's one thing that kind of ties the Team Star bases together and it's that they all have their own
[00:09:15] power. They all seem to share a really incredible Pokemon name. Yeah, Reverend the star mobile form the star mobile form and it's all tricked out and it looks great. And I think it's implied after the cut scene of melee. Yeah, that maybe it's a haunted car and it's sort of infesting all of their minds and taking them over and turning them bad.
[00:09:39] In that flashback, they allude to and probably aptly named Operation Star. Yeah, something we don't know what that operation was about yet. But I think it has to do with these cars because I know that last week Esteban was pretty hell bent on trying to get one of these cars. I don't know that you can get the star mobile form, but I will be curious to find out if he did at least get better be able to get one of the one of the little cars.
[00:10:09] What's the baseline? Vroom. Vroom. Yeah, I don't have one. No, I'm actually Esteban is pretty young. He doesn't he looks mature and capable, but he's not driving age yet. So oh, got it. That's too bad. He wouldn't he wouldn't be able to drive a car anyway. He does get a lot of rides from Donna Baker in her car. Oh, interesting. Yeah, okay. She can drive. Good for her. All right. Anything else you want to say about Giacomo and melee? No, just because we're covering their background.
[00:10:39] I guess it's worth pointing out Giacomo is a DJ and oh yeah, he wears it well. He's sort of like a mopey goth. Is that right? Am I remembering him correctly seems like a maybe post punk DJ. I don't know what his like vibe is. Let me get a look at him again. What is he playing out of this star mobile? You know, is it like new order remixes or is it like passion?
[00:11:09] Patrick Cowley and like Arthur Russell. Yeah, what is what am I? What am I getting from him? He's got such an interesting look. Such an odd look. Or is he just doing like is he like putting out Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter and that kind of thing? Okay, interesting. Here's what I'm seeing. I found some concept art of him and it's got buttoned up school time. Giacomo where he's like a cleaned up suited up student.
[00:11:39] And he looks like a real pill. So I think there's like a dark. It's probably like it's probably like industrial, like dark kind of like trance, you know? Yeah, that that makes sense to me. Like the dark stuff. Dark sided that they play it like vampire bars or whatever. Are there vampire bars that you see in like the underworld movies? You know, yeah.
[00:12:03] Vampires are going to be a theme in this episode. That's where he's DJ. Yeah, and he went to the dark side after apparently he was student body president at UVA Academy or Naranja and he resigned in disgrace because he imposed a bunch of stuffy rules on everyone. One of the team star leaders quoted one being male students hair must stray no further than 1.8 inches below the nape.
[00:12:31] And so I guess they threw him out of. I think this guy's probably actually like super into like fascist aesthetics instead, you know? And that's the kind of stuff he's like. He's going to like some real dark like pride parties but not like the good pride. Yeah, more of like a rally. Yeah, that's what I'm getting from them now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. I don't like him anymore. No, I liked Mella though. Mella almost almost undid me seeing him.
[00:13:01] I'm not seeing your levels on the level check screen sheet that we share. I'm realizing my levels are probably a little low for Mella, but she almost undid me. She was almost at my undoing. Wait, was it the chaos part where you're just hooking Pokemon out or the battle with her? The battle with her. The battle with her. Yeah, I actually know I did struggle with the reviver. The star mobile was tough. Yeah, her star mobile like I just like I had nothing good against it and every every move it had one hit KO'd almost
[00:13:31] all of my Pokemon. Well, we'll get to it. What are we doing? Oh here. We're talking about right now. So Charcadet, my fire type had nothing effective against Reverend, but it was the only one who could shoulder any hits from Reverend. So it was just this grueling like like fire versus fire. Just fire versus fire. Like he like just doing minimal amounts of damage to one another until I could heal and then like continue to grind star mobile down. What a Pokemon. Oh, hard to beat. Nice to look at.
[00:14:01] Rad as hell, corrupts children. Yeah, it's like they made these and then and then the star mobiles seemingly corrupted them. Yeah, it's like the one ring. Yeah, it is the one ring. The reveal after the battle with Mella is she's called rude by her colleagues. Oh, she is rude. She punched me in the face. You take a little photo with them when you beat them. Yeah. And in her photo she has taken mid punch as she punches him.
[00:14:35] She punches Esteban Humano right in the face. Girl boss. Girl boss. It hurts. That sucks. And then like it just like ends the cut scene. It like goes back from the photo and it's like here's your TM. Right. That's what you get for beating a fucking star base. A star badge.
[00:14:52] She says in the flashback, you're trying to flesh out what happened to these team star leaders and that she only was rude because all of the cool girls at UVA Academy or Noronha I guess would make fun of her. And she says it's because they were jealous of her good looks. So she was being bullied.
[00:15:11] And I suspect there might be a theme with these leaders being bullied. I was like on her side for a second. What is the star badge even get us now that we have two of them?
[00:15:25] I don't know. I think we just get a bunch of crap from that alt team. I don't know what we get. So we know that there is a big boss that was leading team star 18 months ago and that person disappeared. So I suspect after we complete the five team star bases, there's going to be another reveal of whoever the big boss is.
[00:15:45] It seems like all we really get is the TM's. The only thing meaningful we get from these star bases is the TM's and the gains. The experience gains.
[00:15:54] It's a lot of work to get flame charge.
[00:15:57] Which like I have one Pokemon who can learn and he already they already know it. And it's their worst move. I just use it to speed up Charcadet when I need to.
[00:16:07] Oh, and speaking of Charcadet that Clive brings Mela her it seems like her old Pokemon which was a Charcadet and its name was Charlos.

[00:16:35] And then I'm doubly concerned that as we predicted or you I think specifically on the first episode is it like oh is Clavel slash maybe Clive going to end up being a big baddie?
[00:16:47] And it just seems so trite. But now I'm concerned that that's starting to look like what the situation might be.
[00:16:53] Clavel is also such an interesting character because it's like it's hard to like he feels so above it all you know it's like am I supposed to like treat him like a Dumbledore character?
[00:17:02] But then he's like a oafish idiot who like is wears Waldo in you and the like Levencia city gym challenge.
[00:17:10] So it's like can't quite get a read on this guy. It's a tough one.

[00:55:29] So it seems to be ramping up but like the tower ones are definitely where you would
[00:55:34] want to focus.
